KNUS 99 Dallas | June, 1972 (2:12) Scoped
Dallas (the city, not the show) was home to one of America’s true radio pioneers. This aircheck is from one of the McLendon stations. KNUS was the sister station of then 1190 KLIF. Sounding conspicuously like it was being consulted by the one and only Bill Drake at this point, KNUS-99 is very tight and certainly one of the best sounding Top 40 outlets in the country in 1972. At just over 2 minutes, this one’s scoped down tight enough to give you a good feel for the rhythm of the station.

It seems to me that our good friend Beau Weaver worked here for a time before moving on to KHJ Los Angeles…. but he’s not on this one.

Love It!!!
Keep It UP!
Great aircheck. It sounds like the Q format under Paul Drew but I could be wrong.
One of the jingles sounds similar to an aircheck of KIMN Denver in 1972.
Was that my old boss Tommy Kramer?
Don’t know about the boss thing. I haven’t PD’d in a while. But I do remember the lineup then:
Ken & Granny (Ken Dowe, Granny Emma) 6-10am
Hal Martin (Michael Spears, PD) 10-12noon
Beau Weaver 12noon-3pm
Kevin McCarthy 3pm-6pm
Tommy Kramer 6pm-10pm
Christopher Haze (Randy Brown) 10pm-2am
Jon Rivers (2am-6am)
Jim White (2am-6am) we had two overnight jocks, rotating depending on which night
Dowe, Spears, Weaver, McCarthy, Kramer, and Rivers have all been elected to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
I am seeking a soundtrak or video of the Nitzinger/Bugs Henderson simulcast that was on the TV and radio one evening in Dallas around 1972.. Anybody know anything about that??
