The “Winners Lucky Cordelle Show” on 1390 WYNR Chicago | August 16, 1963
It’s been nearly 42 years since this aircheck was broadcast (and we can’t find a graphic anywhere that relates to this station in 1963). Imagine yourself listening to the radio back then. Ads for Pimple cream fill the airwaves, along with the hit songs of the day (edited out by law for this exhibit, of course).
This is the “Winner’s Lucky Cordelle” show – and yes the theme is horse racing! A *bit* different than what you’d hear on a typical music station today. Check out the big contest…. “Call Your Shot”. This is much bigger than you’d expect for a radio contest in 1963!

What a treat finding this aircheck. I was 16 and living on the south side of Chicago when this Lucky Cordell wynr show aired. While the station never garnered the audiences of WLS, WCFL, or WVON in those days, it was still a great addition to the 60′s Chicago pop radio scene.
AHHHHH-WYNR. I LOVED this station in the early 60′s. I found it by accident on my transistor radio and had to switch between stations they were all so good. When they first started up, they played the record “Mopity-Mope” by The Boss Tones for a week no matter what record they announced. That’s when I fell in love with that record–HAHA! I still have a 45 RPM of that record. Thank you so very much for all the memories!!!!!!!!
This is great! and before my time but I can remember my aunt telling me about uncle Lucky and his wonderful radio career….thanks for the memories. I do remember his WVON shows when I would visit Chicago in the summer in the early 70′s.
