Mark Somers sits in for the vacationing Ron Lundy a couple of days before Christmas, 1988. The “Golden 101” is in it’s prime, playing the hits from the late 50s right up into the 1980s, although the 80s cuts are not rotated in as frequently as the 60s/70s material.
CBS-FM has a wide playlist at this point in time. The reverb is ON, and this has to be one of the best recordings of CBS-FM we’ve ever received, most likely recorded on a quality stereo system. Keep in mind, in 1988 there was no “HD” white noise on the signal, and true audiophiles had excellent recording equipment, not to mention the TLC put into the processing and transmitting equipment by the engineers.
There are a few Christmas songs in rotation, but its certainly not the saturation that stations do today. CBS-FM stays true to the Oldies format. You’ll hear two complete stop sets (commercial breaks) which helps put listeners in the proper time setting.
