For many years, 1250 WTMA was a Pop powerhouse in Charleston. WTMA flipped to a Top 40 format in the early 1960s and was hugely successful. As the late 70’s approached, WTMA’s numbers started to falter, as was happening to many AM Top 40 stations around the country . WTMA morphed in to an Adult Contemporary format. The station was more AC during the day, and leaned more Urban in the evening. It had some success with that for a few years but found major competition with WCSC during that time. By the mid-80s it went oldies, and eventually, News Talk. This aircheck is from the AC years in the early 1980s, but it definitely leans Urban with the evening aircheck with Big Mack.
