Bill Brown began his tenure at the Golden 101 in 1969 and stayed with CBS-FM for 36 years! He was displaced in 2005, when the station ditched Oldies for the failed “Jack-FM” Variety Hits format which lasted just under two years.

Brown only goes by his first name, Bill. His is a warm personality, with a great set of pipes… back when voice tone mattered!

Once again, notice how wide the playlist is. From Bobby Darin’s “Somewhere Beyond The Sea” with it’s swing sound, to Aretha’s then-recent hit “Who’s Zoomin’ Who?”, CBS-FM managed to play it all, and still maintain its Oldies format.

This aircheck demonstrates why, 101.1 WCBS-FM was and still IS the ‘gold standard’ by which all other Oldies/Classic Hits stations are judged.

Bill Brown was thoroughly professional and had what could be called, “a golden voice.”

Notice how he always hit the post or stopped speaking just short of the vocal on the song.
