WTIC-FM 96 Hartford – Bill Lenke (Bill Lee) – December 31 1977

Back in 1977, 96 WTIC-FM flipped to a CHR/Top 40 format, from it’s easy listening format, & hasn’t looked back since. It is considered the first Hot Hits station, programmed by Mike Joseph.

Over the years, the station evolved to a more traditional CHR station, and they kept that going until around 1994, after fighting with competitor WKSS, Kiss 95.7, they decided to move in a Hot Adult Contemporary direction. Even after more than 25 years as a Hot AC, they are still one of the market leaders in Connecticut. This aircheck features Bill Lenke. Bill’s fast talking, rhyming style made him popular on TIC-FM. He is still at it today, afternoons on WCBS-FM, New York.  -Ellis
