The Rock of Chicago sure is rockin’ on this aircheck! Here’s Don Geronimo (WPGC, WAVA, WXLO) during a short stint in the Windy City! WLS is still doing the faux-AOR format, and this is right around the time that WLS-FM 95 (94.7) came into the picture in a big way.

By 1986, the rock audience would evacuate the AM band, leaving WLS on a dark road toward the bottom of the heap before it’s ultimate flip to Talk, but here in ‘82, “The Rock” was still a huge deal in Chicago. Enjoy a very hi-fi, albeit mono, slice of the ENORMOUS 89, WLS!

Don Geronimo on WPGC Washington DC | 1980

WPGC today is an Urban station, but back in 1980 it was a very hot top 40 station… and on FM no less! Here, Don Geronimo sounds great, after a stint in New York on 99X. He would later end up at WAVA, along with the likes of Tom Kent and Chris Taylor, among others.

Don Geronimo on All-Hit 105 WAVA Arlington | 1985

This station was somethin’ else! WAVA was Washington’s hit station for about 7 years and during that time they did plenty of innovative and creative things on the air.

Sadly, it all came to an end many years ago when the station was purchased by a religious broadcaster and turned into a 24/7 preaching outlet.

Don Geronimo on WXLO 99X New York | 1976

From the heyday of New York’s 99X, comes this aircheck featuring up and coming Don Geronimo (of Don & Mike fame). Geronimo went on to work at WPGC Washington DC, and later WAVA Arlington (VA) before ending up at WJFK doing syndicated talk.
