Aircheck from the early days of 98.7 Kiss FM New York, with WABC’s former night superstar Chuck Leonard.

Chuck’s radio career began in 1959 at WEBB in Baltimore.  In 1965, Leonard moved to New York City to work for WWRL, the local R&B radio station. The WWRL night shift stint lasted for only seven weeks because he moved across town to WABC MusicRadio 77, the highest-rated station in the country at that time.

Leonard remained at WABC for 14 years until 1979.  He moved to WXLO in 1980, which became 98.7 Kiss WRKS-FM 1 year later.  In 1989, he joined WBLS-FM, and in 1996, he began working for WQEW-AM and Sirius Satellite Radio on both the Swing Street and Soul Review channels.  -Ellis
