First posted in 2004 right here, two exclusive airchecks from our good friend and contributor Marc Denis!
When we talk about the great stations of the past, most people probably think of the biggies in the U.S., such as WLS, WABC and KHJ. In Canada, CKLW always comes to mind. Well, in the AM top 40 era there was ANOTHER great station – 98 CKGM in Montreal. Yes, predominantly French speaking Quebec province!
CKGM was one of the handful of English-speaking radio stations in this bi-lingual city, and it was a great station for many reasons. You can read about the history of CKGM at Marc Denis’ CKGM Super 70s Tribute page. As for Mais Oui himself… he is today one of Canada’s top voiceover talents. His resume includes numerous Montreal-area radio stations, the silver screen and even the voice of Air Canada’s in-flight entertainment system! Want more info on Marc? Click here for his voiceover website!
Yes, Mais Oui was and still is a fantastic personality, but what makes him stand out from the rest is the fact that he’s one of a handful of personalities who did their shows in both French and English – at the same time! Even today, Denis bills himself as the 2 in 1 solution when it comes to voiceover work since he’s fluent in both languages.
Marc was extremely generous to this site, giving us an exclusive interview two years ago and in providing two wonderful airchecks. We invite you to visit his websites and get to know the artist himself – and see why our good friends to the north certainly are just as talented and had just as exciting radio as we here in America!
Now… two QuickChecks for you, each run about two minutes. From the Summer of 1978, here’s Marc “Mais Oui Denis on CKGM Montreal!
