J.J. Jeffries on 68 WRKO Boston | 1969

WRKO airchecks are relatively hard to come by, so this is a treat. Here’s J.J. Jeffries on The Big 68 playing the hits on a Golden Weekend. It’s still the Bill Drake era, complete with jingles from the Johnny Mann Singers and the typical formatics.

Jeffries would go from WRKO jock to station owner in the 1970s. Word has it he’s in Maine these days.

I listened to J. J. on WLS growing up. Later iin life I got to work with the man, the myth, the legend when he owned KHOP, One of many other stationes he owned accross the country. J. J. was always a treat. from WLS to WRKO to Fuller-Jeffrey broadcasting. I will have a drink of two fingers for you my friend!

Had the pleasure of listening to JJ Jeffrey when he was on WFIL in the early 1970s…I grew up on New York City radio, but never heard a station or a jock better than WFIL at that time..great voice, great timing, great sense of humor…he was as good as there was anywhere in my opinion…

I also worked as a weekend announcer for WOKQ in Dover NH. I was there for two years and J.J would sit me down once a month and go over my airchecks.
The time spent was invaluable and spoke volumes of his personal commitment to broadcasting as well as his superb management skills. Not once did I ever feel J.J. to be an egotist, demanding or iritable as many manager/owners are. You wanted to please him because he was a “team player” and would still do airshifts. I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside many New England broadcast personalities and J.J. Jeffrey is among the very best.

the previous folks have it right…it’s Jeffrey not
    Jeffries…(Joseph N. Jeffrey)

He owned WIDE in Biddeford Maine during some of my
tenure there. Came in early in the A.M. and helped me
compile news stories (I was the sole announcer on a
    news-info format…small station)

J.J. is a good and generous man and he treated me very
    well during our association.
