Robin Young on WBZ Radio 103 Boston | December 1974 (43:16)

This is a very unique aircheck of Robin Young on WBZ, sometime in 1974. Based upon the fact that mention is made of the fact that most of the WBZ equipment and music is NOT in the studio, I think this was recorded just after the conclusion of WBZ’s ‘Grease Weekend’. They did two or three of those in the early & mid 1970s.

On this aircheck, you won’t hear any jingles, you’ll hear long pauses between songs and virtually no imaging elements. Apparently just about everything WBZ used for on air was taken for whatever special remote the station was doing that weekend. Robin Young does a great job hosting a show with virtually nothing. It’s part talk show, part music, and really shows how much talent Young had. I believe she later did some work for WBZ-TV 4 a bit later in the 70s or 80s… somebody knows.

    I may be mistaken but wasn’t Robin the sister of actor John Savage?

    Got this from doing a google on Robin Young:

    Robin Young brings over 25 years of eclectic broadcast experience to her role as host of “Here and Now.” She is both a Peabody Award winning documentary filmmaker and the past host of a cooking game show. She’s been a correspondent for the Discovery Channel, CBS, ABC, and for several years was substitute host and correspondent for the TODAY show on NBC. Robin may be best known to the Boston audience for her part in launching the popular Evening Magazine on WBZ-TV in the mid-70s, and for her television profiles on WNEV-TV in the mid-80’s. For the past decade she’s also been producing and directing documentaries.

    Find clips of Robin Young on the Here & Now Web site. See URL: http://www.here-now.org/. Here & Now is a radio program that is produced in Boston at WBUR and distributed nationally via NPR. Robin has been a favorite of mine for years. It was great when she reappeared in the Boston market.

    In response to another who posted here, John Savage and Robin Young are siblings, and their family name was Youngs.
