QuickCheck: Mike O’Brien on WQIO “The New Q-10″ Canton (OH) | 1977

Okay, just for Independence day, here’s some (promised) material from markets we haven’t yet heard from.

Jock Mike O’Brien sounds capable, and probably a really good jock, but also sounds hamstrung by having to say “The New Q-Ten, WQIO - Where the Music Is” each time he cracks the mic. Frankly, it’s irritating to hear the same phrase in between each record (programmers, are you listening?). Other than that the only notable on this aircheck is that it’s VERY short… that’s why its an Airchexx.com QuickCheck!

I have to comment on this aircheck not only because “Q-10″ was a great Top 40 station that I was fortunate enough to hear several times, but also because I made this aircheck myself at my house in Pittsburgh, using a very sensitive radio, on a day when WQIO was coming in particularly well (you can hear a little “sideband action” from our local 1080). For 20+ years, every time I asked around for other airchecks of Q-10, I’d get this one back! Finally, Don Blesse, the former sales manager of WQIO, sent me some other tapes of the station a couple of years back. Q-10 rocked! (And “Win-Wonderful” 1520 was no slouch, either.)
