Here’s another QuickCheck. The jock doesn’t give his name so it’s about as generic an aircheck as we can find. Legally, this is WHBC-FM, there was or is an AM somewhere in Canton. It’s a sleepy sounding station playing Adult Contemporary music. You’ll hear a couple of seconds of white noise on the signal during dead air segments between when the music stops and the jock starts. This is a live broadcast from a car dealership somewhere in Canton.
I wrote all that just so you can hear a few minutes of WHBC from Canton Ohio.

The jock states his name as Bryce Lewis. Last time I checked, he still works for WHBC-AM, after doing a stint on the afternoon shift on WHBC-FM (MIX 94.1).
The DJ doing the Child Development Services commercials was Bob Krahling, who had been at WHBC-AM since the 1960’s at least. Judging by the way the aircheck sounds this actually may be 1480 AM.
This is indeed WHBC AM 1480, taped by myself on a Saturday morning. The AM at the time was current-based AC, the FM was beautiful music. In 1990 the FM switched to AC, the AM to all-oldies full service, and those formats continue at this writing. Brice Lewis is still on the air doing PM drive on 1480.
Update:
As of early 2008, WHBC AM went to a News/Talk Format, with heavy Fox Sports in the evening..Here is a post from my blog talking about AM 1480’s recent switch to FOX News, after being associated with ABC Radio since 1947..

94.1 still does AC..
Another note:I dont do nearly as much about radio on my blog as I like, but the current post has some Vintage radio pics from WINW and WFAH..
