Composite: WGCI AM/FM “Power 107.5″ Chicago | December 1986

This one is for the early ‘old skool’ hip hop & r&b fans! WGCI is definitely hot here, and has some great jocks, including Tom Joyner, who is of course a nationally syndicated morning show host today. Here, Joyner (I think) is doing afternoons on WGCI.

The whole station really cooks throughout this aircheck. It’s scoped but listen for fresh music (well the START of the songs anyway) from the late Luther Vandross, Madonna, and more! There’s a major contest going on where listeners will be awarded a trip to Rio De Janero to celebrate the new album by Sergio Mendez - Brazil ‘86. There are other contests here too.

It’s an EARLY hip-hop station from before the phrase hip hop was even in vogue!

This was the best WGCI line up ever!…. Bob Wall (RIP)/ Harold Lee Rush, Yvonne Daniels (RIP)Tom “Fly Jock” Joyner and Doug Banks you can’t get any better than that in Chicago Urban Radio at the time…..This was their “Golden Age” Before Clear Channel. Too bad we can’t go back!
