Another from contributor J.R. Russ, here’s Steve York, a guy who sounds a bit more ‘authoritative’ with his approach to rock music in Chicago. This kinda reminds me of Tony Taylor on WOR-FM, the way he annunciates his words. It’s a good representation of how the top 40 wars heated up between ‘CFL and WLS.

I believe this aircheck is circa January 14, 1971.
Steve York (nee Jeff Stevens) came to WCFL from WEAM in Washington DC, where he did PM drive. He was brought up to ‘CFL by OM Paul Christy, who had been MD/Mornings at WEAM. Jeff/Steve had come to WEAM from WWCO in Waterbury CT, which was his home. Paul, I believe, was the PD who started the “city names” for jocks at WCFL (Bob Dearborn had come from WKNR in… yep. Dearborn! After WCFL, Steve headed up to Milwaukee and WRIT, then WISN. I visited him at WRIT in the 70’s but lost track of him after that.
