Jim Tabor on 1190 KLIF Dallas | June, 1972 (3:44) Scoped

Here’s one I doubt anyone’s heard. This is the legendary, allegedly most-copied radio station in history, 1190 KLIF. It’s said that McLendon spent so much time in promotions that this station was unbeatable for several years. Well, this aircheck is from the later part of those years.

Jim Taber (T-A-B-E-R) did 9 to midnight in the late 60’s and early 70’s, and was KLIF music director for a time. Jim “The Bama Boy” Taber left KLIF in 1973 to work at KROQ in Los Angeles. He later owned radio stations KINT AM and FM in El Paso and then had a career in the jingle business back in Dallas. Jim passed away 3/15/93 of a brain tumor.

Jim was one of the people in radio who really was really a nice guy. I worked at KNUS FM and had a part time stint at KLIF news when Jim was there. I worked for McLendon from 1969 until 1972.
Jim had a KLIF Christmas party at his house one year, and the hospitality was great.
I was sorry to hear of his passing.

Jim is and was my hero, he hired me in 1987 to work overnites on his clovis Nm station kzzo 107.5. “the zoo 108″. I remember he had these 2 huge books on his desk that said “ALL MY RADIO SECRETS” ….He told me when I was ready he would let me read the books. Well 1 year later he introduced me to Michael Spears who hired me to do nites at k104 in Dallas. I opend up the books with his permission to find nothing but BLANK PAGES!@!!! I must have had some look on my face because Jim almost Laughed untill he cryed. He was truly a great man- kind, giving, one tough man to work for, he expected the best EVERY BREAK. There are alot of jocks who owe thier careers chops, and especailly thier radio paradimes to Jim. God Bless.
