AJ was a great guy, and VERY talented jock. This aircheck is from 1990. After this, he moved on to WPLJ/New York (pre-MOJO and during MOJO) as “AJ Hammer.” After that, he shifted into TV as a VJ at VH1. He wasn’t cursed with a face for radio like SOME of us. After VH1, I lost touch with him. Wonder where he ended up?
A.J. was co-hosting CNN’s Showbiz Tonight. Did they cancel the show?
A.J. is still the host of CNN’s Showbiz Tonight – he’s been doing it since the show went on the air. I was a huge fan of his on ‘PLJ and loved catching him on Z100 where he’d fill in for Cubby a lot while doing TV. I used to call him there from time to time and he always said radio was his first love. I also remember him telling me that Big Ron was one of his first mentors.
