This is absolutely fabulous stuff! Listening to Y100 and 96X and the hippy-dippy Zeta and SHE brings back so many memories. WIOD as a Pop/MOR. WAXY with Roby Young. Whoa…. Anyone programming in Miami and/or a longtime SoFla radio person should listen to this and enjoy the good ol’ days when Six Flags Atlantis and your transistor radio were a vital part of your summer.
This is one of my favorite composites that I ever did. I remember taking my JVC cassette DECK (not boombox) with me on the plane in it’s original box, and hooking it up to my grandparents stereo system. They lived in Hallendale, so reception for all the stations was really good. I got to meet on that trip many of the Y100 jocks, including Bill Tanner, Rob Walker, and Kid Curry. I even won tickets to the Dade County Youth Fair from Earl The Pearl! Miami was always one of my favorite markets, and this composite shows why! Miami Heat Part 2 is from 2002, and includes some hot stations also…but it’s not 1978!
Matt, this is a fantastic aircheck! I lived in South Florida at that time, and listened to the radio at that time, so now that I live elsewhere, this aircheck brings back a lot of memories. I know that some of these stations have changed formats since then.
Thanks Laura! I still have the original cassette tapes from that trip that are slowly but surely getting converted to CD. Those are among some of my most treasured airchecks, and to have gotten to meet some of the people on them was even more special! Not only did I meet guys at Y100, I also got to meet 96X PD Joel Denver (now owner of http://www.allaccess.com), and WQAM PD Tom Birch. That was an amazing trip, and these airchecks bring back alot of memories.
I can’t begin to thank you enough for these…I have in storage a bunch of recordings from 97GTR 97.3 FM which became the Coast in 1992. I also have hours of stuff taped from WSHE from 1988-97 some stuff from I-95 FM from 1982-83 as well and some WIOD stuff from the late 80s. When I get a chance to convert I will.
Any chance you have some K102 stuff?
I can say without a doubt the two best stations in the 80s IMO was WSHE and 97.3 GTR..In fact to this day i still have my GTR license plate on my car..I still remember the day that Patti Murray for 97 GTR was killed in that automobile accident in upper Florida..Man did i mourn she was an awesome on air personality and i had met Mad Mike many times thorugh his various remotes at Movie theaters and what not..I remember rapping to him extensively at the opening of Field Of Dreams at the old Broward Mall Movie Theater location..Man oh man what memories..THanks for bringing them back to us..
I wanted to contact “DOUG” in regard to number 5. question above..I was an on air personality for 3 years as “Nasty” on the morning show with Herman and Mc Bean and was wondering if youhad any tapes of what I did with them. We did turkey bowl every year and plenty of benefit things like The Mighty Kite Flight…If you have anything I may be interested in “Doug” please send me an email at my hotmail address!
Thanks
Nancy
