This is absolutely fabulous stuff! Listening to Y100 and 96X and the hippy-dippy Zeta and SHE brings back so many memories. WIOD as a Pop/MOR. WAXY with Roby Young. Whoa…. Anyone programming in Miami and/or a longtime SoFla radio person should listen to this and enjoy the good ol’ days when Six Flags Atlantis and your transistor radio were a vital part of your summer.

  2. This is one of my favorite composites that I ever did. I remember taking my JVC cassette DECK (not boombox) with me on the plane in it’s original box, and hooking it up to my grandparents stereo system. They lived in Hallendale, so reception for all the stations was really good. I got to meet on that trip many of the Y100 jocks, including Bill Tanner, Rob Walker, and Kid Curry. I even won tickets to the Dade County Youth Fair from Earl The Pearl! Miami was always one of my favorite markets, and this composite shows why! Miami Heat Part 2 is from 2002, and includes some hot stations also…but it’s not 1978!

Matt, this is a fantastic aircheck! I lived in South Florida at that time, and listened to the radio at that time, so now that I live elsewhere, this aircheck brings back a lot of memories. I know that some of these stations have changed formats since then.

  4. Thanks Laura! I still have the original cassette tapes from that trip that are slowly but surely getting converted to CD. Those are among some of my most treasured airchecks, and to have gotten to meet some of the people on them was even more special! Not only did I meet guys at Y100, I also got to meet 96X PD Joel Denver (now owner of http://www.allaccess.com), and WQAM PD Tom Birch. That was an amazing trip, and these airchecks bring back alot of memories.

I can’t begin to thank you enough for these…I have in storage a bunch of recordings from 97GTR 97.3 FM which became the Coast in 1992. I also have hours of stuff taped from WSHE from 1988-97 some stuff from I-95 FM from 1982-83 as well and some WIOD stuff from the late 80s. When I get a chance to convert I will.

Any chance you have some K102 stuff?

I can say without a doubt the two best stations in the 80s IMO was WSHE and 97.3 GTR..In fact to this day i still have my GTR license plate on my car..I still remember the day that Patti Murray for 97 GTR was killed in that automobile accident in upper Florida..Man did i mourn she was an awesome on air personality and i had met Mad Mike many times thorugh his various remotes at Movie theaters and what not..I remember rapping to him extensively at the opening of Field Of Dreams at the old Broward Mall Movie Theater location..Man oh man what memories..THanks for bringing them back to us..

I wanted to contact “DOUG” in regard to number 5. question above..I was an on air personality for 3 years as “Nasty” on the morning show with Herman and Mc Bean and was wondering if youhad any tapes of what I did with them. We did turkey bowl every year and plenty of benefit things like The Mighty Kite Flight…If you have anything I may be interested in “Doug” please send me an email at my hotmail address!
    Thanks
    Nancy

Hey, I have had this album Yatta Yatta Yatta by The Rock N’ Roll Animals for some years now. I was wondering if someone could tell me what year it came out. I have looked on several websites to figure out the specific year. From what I can tell it’s between ‘86 and ‘92. I would very appreciative if someone knew. Grant Miller, Grand Rapids, MI

  11. Eric says:

Yatta Yatta Yatta was a colection of songs put out by 97GTR in 1987. The songs were made between 85,and 86. I had a copy and let a DJ use it and it was never returned. I have been looking for another copy ever sence….. Enjoy the tunes man you have a good one.

  12. Shawn says:

Wow, this is really cool! I just stumbled upon this site looking for yatta. Those were some great times with some great people. That was probably the best radio I have ever heard… like one of those once in a lifetime things. I sure do miss all those guys… they were “real”. And as far as Im concerned Yatta Yatta Yatta is one of the best alblums I’ve heard as far as comedy rock goes!
    Peace!

I was on the South Florida airwaves from 1986-2007 and on varies radio stations from Vero Beach to Key West during that period of time reporting traffic along with other on air activities. I finally left South Florida (my home town of Miami) in June of 2007 because I had enough of Clear Channel’s crap. I really miss what radio was in the 70’s and 80’s it was so fun growong up listening to WIOD, WQAM, Y-100, 96-X and many others but the big corporations and voice tracking killed radio as we know it. Clear Channel told me just befor I left to forget about radio’s past and think about the future (less is more) I AM SORRY I CAN’T. Thank God for site like this where we can goto and remember our past. I am know a traffic reporter on WLOS TV CH 13 in Asheville, NC and have been with them a year now. I love them because unlike radio the television fraturity treats their employees’ well. The staff and anchors and reporters of WLOS TV are a wonderful group of people to work with so with that in mind I guess my time in South Florida is over.
