1300 WAVZ New Haven | 1973 (21:25) Scoped

This recording came from a vynl copy of Programmer’s Digest, a popular industry aircheck archiver in the 70s and 80s. This is a professional demo of “The New LUCKY 13″

What this demonstrates, once again, is just how creative and exciting AM radio was all those years ago.

Hi there, fellow WAVZ fans! (at least I’m assuming you are if you’ve stumbled upon this aircheck). This one is from my collection. At a garage sale a few years ago, I lucked upon the original vinyl LP of the Fall 1973 Programmer’s Digest. It features a segment called “A Visit with WAVZ”, which contains some of the TOTALLY cool promos (voiced by John Long and produced by Bobby Rich) which were aired in the summer of ‘73. Also, the entire 1st generation “New Waves” jock lineup is heard on this compilation cookin’ at their “Q” format finest! (could anything be better than hearing Brian Phoenix or Mason Dixon do their thing?). At this point, I was 14 years old and totally in love with the incredible sound and energy of this station. Have many, many airchecks from precisely this time period (‘73 thru ‘75) that I still enjoy listening to. (now remastered to CDs, of course). If anybody else out there has WAVZ airchecks – any condition, any time period – please drop me an email at AndyBologovsky@OptOnline.net and let’s chat!
