Bob “Vernon with a V” on 66 WNBC New York | Summer, 1975

From what was probably the best period in many ways for the “Flagship Station of the National Broadcasting Company” in the 1970s, here’s Bob Vernon and his afternoon show sometime during the Summer of ‘75.

In any other time and place, Vernon would probably be #1 in the market - but this is New York… and nobody’s gonna beat Dan Ingram over on WABC. But, with that kind of talent going
head to head, wasn’t that really what made radio so great?

I enjoyed the aircheck. The show was very well produced and tight.. It sounds like WNBC was MOR during the day. I remember that they had Imus in the morning. They may have had Soupy Sales mid-day back then. I also remember Steve O’Brien. Bruce Morrow had a show and Norm N. Nite had a show there for a while.

There were so many good shows on New York radio then. This show was a good show, but I was always listening to some other show. The slower tempo music kept me away. If this show were on today, I would listen to it once in a while.
