Here’s yet another reason Z-100 has the reputation of being the mother of all modern-day CHR stations! Great talent exhibited here, from the Z Morning Zoo to Elvis Duran, fabulous imaging & great production.

This is from a time period when CHR and Z-100 were playing this trainwreck mix of pop from Michael Bolton and Grunge from Pearl Jam… some would say this wasn’t CHR, but Z-100 is definitely playing all the hits.

Another great scoped presentation from Robyn Watts, which is actually side two of an original, first generation tape from “Hecht Enterprises”. Glad they were around to chronicle this one!

This was an interesting time for Z-100 in this aircheck, but major changes were in store shortly after this was recorded. Ross Britian would leave the Zoo shortly after this and head to Kiss 95.7 in Hartford. His replacement was Steve Cockran, which lasted about a week, then John Lander took over for several years until Elvis Duran replaced him.

Musically, the station would continue to mix pop with Alternative tunes until 103.5-KTU signed on in 1996, then Z-100 evolved back to mainstream CHR.

    Robyn,

Thanks for posting this link. It brings back some good memories from my teen years. However music doesnt sound anything like this today. Its a shame, I would love to have a station like this today. Feel free to write back, i have some tapes of z100 from the mid 90’s.
