How I looked forward to Christmas vacation so I could roll tape on WABC’s Top 100 of the Year. My Wollensak got quite a workout and those Green Box Shamrock Mylar tapes were only 88 cents at Lafayette Electronics. Notice: This was NOT a COUNTDOWN! WABC did it in random fashion, so I felt like I was filling in a “bingo card”! It made sense- ’cause a “countdown” meant that you heard all the weaker/perhaps less familiar songs in a row. Rick Sklar knew what he was doing! Of course these days most stations have to dig really deep to find 100 hits ’cause they don’t play that many currents in meaningful rotation!

As a kid from the Bronx, NY, I grew up listening to “Dan Ingram”! He was part of my everyday life…In my opinion, he was one of the “TOP” three DJ’s on NY Radio in the 60’s. The other two were Frankie Crocker & Roscoe! I liked Mr. Ingram’s wit! Wished I had the chance to meet him! They don’t make them like that anymore, nor the music either!

Hey WABC, I just can’t take my mind off of Ingram,Donavon and the rest of the crew. I wish I was still in my teens. I just could not wait to here the top 100 of the years 71,72,73,74,75,76,and 77. In 1978 I went into the service. How can I get the CD’s of the top 100. I remember in 1972 you wrote down the songs that made the top 100 and you could recieve the top 100 records of that year, if you correctly got them in order. Oh yeah, I still have the notebook from 1972 when I was 15, with the top 100 of 1972.

Dan Ingram was my idol growing up. I listened everyday from 1966 through 1978. He inspired me to be who I am today. Through the late 70’s and early 80’s I was the disco dj in popular clubs in Manhattan. Then in 1984 I started to dj at NYC Jukebox and then SHOUT! (Two oldies clubs) in Times Square where I finally met Dan Ingram.

Dan Ingram filled my childhood with the greatest memories and I think of him everytime I play any song.

What wonderful memories of a man I worshipped! I remember listening to Dan Ingram on 77 ABC on my little turquoise “transistor” when I would go to the (Jersey) shore (’down the shore”…aah, youth!).
