Imus in the Morning - 66 WNBC New York | August 24, 1977
With all the attention focused on Don Imus this year, it seems logical that a museum dedicated to the history of Radio should exhibit great recordings of a legend who was best known, not as a talk show host, but as a disc jockey. This particular recording takes us back to just before Imus was fired from WNBC, in 1977. Recorded just days before his final show, Imus is here rocking New York, and competing with crosstown WABC’s Harry Harrison for listeners!
Plenty of music and commercials from 1977, and TWO full newscasts from then and current Imus newsman Charles McCord.
This is a WORLD PREMIER aircheck, virgin audio never heard before anywhere. Courtesy of Matt @ Big Apple Airchecks!

stern began with nbc in 1982 I remember I was there.
Love the Holsten Beer commercial “Guzzling Verboten!” That’s a hilarious slogan…lol!
Also liked that Imus mentioned “Kentucky Fried Movie”. I was 13 years old at the time, and some friends and I snuck into that movie at the local cineplex. What an eye-opener for a 13 year old…that movie was filthy…lol!!
Please keep the WNBC radio airchecks coming.
Charles sounds the same now as then. Same cadence and inflection.
Neat to hear Gil Gross on the news.
And the Crazy Eddie commercial… great!
