Michael Sarzynski on 66 WNBC New York | October 23, 1978

Thanks to this late submission from our good friend “Magic” Matt over at Big Apple Airchecks, we can bring you a really GOOD, high quality recording of the late WNBC.

1978… probably the biggest year for Disco music, before the days of disco destruction… and here’s WNBC doing it’s best to compete with crosstown WABC. Good as it was, success was never achieved in this too-little-too-late attempt to gain the top 40 music crown, what, with WXLO and other FM stations swiftly coming up to oppose the few remaining music AM’s in the Big Apple. However, despite that background, listen to this aircheck! I think you’ll find the presentation better than most stations today… and even better than most Oldies stations. It sure was a different world in 1978!

I used to listen to him back then,I may have heard this aircheck although I`m not sure,I miss hearing WNBC.
    What a great station.

  2. Ross Smith says:

Is this the same guy who was on WFIL around 1986.

Wow! Always great to hear Mike’s voice. So sad when he passed. I used to call in to the “_____ Night Live” shows as the “Crazed Impersonationist”, and called over 100 times! What phone bills, but I was 15, and didn’t have a job, so I didn’t have to pay! Talked to him about a year before he passed after I got into radio myself. Thanks for making this aircheck available!

I used to listen to Michael in the early eighties when he did a weekly show on WNBC of the top 40 hits in the New York area. The showed followed Casey Kasem’s American Top 40. I was only about 14 and was really just starting to love music. I spent hours listening to Michael. I don’t think people have that same love of radio these days: Too many choices and so little quality. I’m sorry to hear that he died.

Sarzynski is my mother’s grandps’s last name! Just trying to find stuff about the family.

In the early 1980’s I went to school in Springfield, MA and WNBC would come in at night. I often remember listening to Michael Sarzynski, especially on drives to and from home along I-91.

    I do miss W NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN B C !!
