Mike Phillips on WXLO 99x New York | January 1974 (6:22)
From 1974, and the beginnings of WXLO after flipping from WOR-FM, we hear Mike Phillips. He was a big time west coast jock at KFRC and here he is sounding GREAT!
You’ll hear some early WXLO jingles… not many, since they were used sparsely at least in this aircheck. Notice the pace - moves right along, but not quite the same lightning fast pace of, say, Steve “Smokin’” Weed, who came along a couple of years later.
99X fans, this is for you!

am I missign it, or is there no link provided to actually invoke (listen) to this aircheck?
Um… webmaster goofed. Sorry, I was putting up the tree while doing the site. Maybe I should stick to one thing at a time LOL…
Sorry bout that. All fixed!
WXLO used the ID “99XLO” for only a matter of weeks. They were transitioning to high energy “99X” and I remember, as a teenager, thinking that they had actually changed frequency from 98.7 to 99.1 — initially not knowing that they were just rounding it up.
