Howard Hoffman on WPRO-FM Providence | 1977 (7:16) Scoped
Listening to this aircheck again, all I could think of was WOW! If you’ve never heard Howard Hoffman before then you are in for a serious treat. Hoffman makes fun of just about everything and everyone - one of the biggest goofballs ever to crack a mic.
Hoffman later worked at WPIX-FM and WABC New York and these days runs his own voiceover business online at toonvoices.com
What this aircheck apparently is, is one of his demos. It certainly shows off some of Hoffman’s best material. Damn funny.
Oh, and the station? 92 PRO-FM is STILL doing Top 40, although as with every other CHR in the nation, it’s corporate-owned and sounds about like any other CHR you might hear in any other city. Sad. But in 1977, this was the hottest thing going in Southern New England!

Hey - this is the summer of 1978, not ‘77 and it’s great!
It’s interesting that when this aircheck was put together, Howard Hoffman said just try to convince Arbitron that screwey radio is dead. Hear we are in 2,005 and some of us would like to tell them that when done right as was the case on this aircheck, it isn’t.
We need Hoffman back on the air right away doing what he does best as evidenced by the way he sounded on WPRO FM and on stations he later worked at.
AJ is right….this aircheck is from 1978, not `77.
Howard plays a song by The Cars on this `check, and The Cars first album was not released until May `78.
Great aircheck though…..
Just a minor correction, Hoffman worked at WPIX-FM **before** PRO-FM, not after.
