JoJo “Cookin’” Kincaid on KKLQ ‘Q-106′ San Diego | 1989

Your webmaster heard from a truly great jock back around Easter Weekend and I’d like to share some of it with you, along with a great aircheck from him at Q-106 San Diego from the golden days of 80s CHR!

JoJo Kincaid is featured elsewhere on this site, doing his thing on WVBF Framingham/Boston from 1978. Strangely enough, it appears he didn’t know the aircheck even existed and got a chance to remember some good times in Boston. JoJo writes:

Thanks for the link to VBF in ‘78! I don’t have a lot of stuff from that era…this is fabulous. I’ll snag it with Cool Edit and do a little EQing and speed adjustment…should work great!

Also, a boatload of thanks for your very kind comments. Those were great days at F-105 (don’t forget what the “F” stands for) even though my welcoming present to Boston was the Blizzard of ‘78! I have a picture taken in the mid 90’s of Mighty Mike, Pete Falconi, The Doctor and myself which hangs proudly in the radio shack here.

I’ve attached some JoJo radio from San Diego for your collection. Hope you have fun with it. I sure did!!

Take care and thanks again for everything, bro…please stay in touch.

Now, there’s more to this story than just JoJo sending us a copy of this aircheck. The copy he sent in, he recorded from his computer off a recording made by Les Durant which was posted at another website.. Les wrote to say that HE recorded this aircheck while living in Ramona. Les was kind enough to send in the high-quality original copy.

So now, here it is – parts one and two of our good friend JoJo Kincaid on Q-106! – In Stereo

Well, Les, JoJo sent that to me personally. I had wondered why the quality is somewhat grainy. If it was taken from another site, he did it himself, as would be his right.

JoJo is one of THE BEST jocks of all time! Great to hear him here. I remember well the years he “cooked” in Boston, especially at Kiss-108!

  3. Mike says:

What’s JoJo up to these days? Is he still in radio? on the air?

  4. JoJo is currently at 95.7 The Wolf in San Francisco
CBS screwed him over at 99.7 KFRC. They brought him in for afternoons. 3 months later CBS flips to MOViN 99.7 and fired everyone.

With the failure of FREE FM, CBS flips 106.9 to KFRC and is tryin to get the station back to the orignal 99.7 KFRC. Someone said they tried to get JoJo back, but he is happy at The Wolf!

I got a chance to work with Jo Jo at KISS 108 (Medford/Boston) when I interned there back in 84-85. Not only does this man excite his audience but he has the most energy of any jock I have EVER seen. I got an email from him a while back and he was doing voice tracking and commercials from him home studio.

Jo Jo will always be one of my favorite jocks!

  6. Hi all,

I never really heard him live on air as I live in Belgium but Jojo was an inspiration for my Radio Carrier. Unfortunately no radio station/dj is able to create such an energy as Jojo did back in the days.

Does someone has more recordings of Jojo Cookin on Q 106?

    Best regards,
    Tim Van Renterghem

There’s some great video on You Tube of JoJo. I worked with him at the Q when I was producing the morning show (Murphy & McKeever / 1987). I later did nights on-air at Z-90/SD and then in Phoenix for a decade. JoJo was an inspiration to my radio career…I still get chills! — Best, The original ‘Kid Corona’ (also on airchexx).
