Mike Phillips on KFRC San Francisco | May 3, 1966 (3:52) Scoped
This one definitely qualifies as a QuickCheck - About three minutes of classic audio from KFRC and Mike Phillips (elswhere on this site: KFRC, WXLO). No wonder KFRC blew away the competition - even in the 60s, the Big 610 was a major rocker!

This was the KFRC “Launch Format.” Drake did the same thing to setup KHJ.
Parade of Hits featured lots of gold…there were no full-time Oldies Stations in this era.
Drake grabbed contemporary heritage listeners “by the ears,” then segued into and Adult Compatible Top 40 approach…that was a lean, mean, constant promotion machine…with great sounding jocks like MIKE PHILLIPS.
I was privileged to hear “MJ Phillips” on KISN at a weekender and vacation fill-in DJ in 1960. It was long before MIKE WESTERN exited and MIKE PHILLIPS could use his real name on-air.

Growing up in Portland meant not only did we get to hear MIKE PHILLIPS, but also TOM MURPHY, The REAL DON STEELE and JOHNNY WILLIAMS (KHJ). Williams preceeded Steele by about 1 year in the PM Drive slot at KISN.
Exciting radio!!!
