I remember playing that station on my transistor radio and my home stereo system at the same time. I believe the home stereo was set to the FM side, because it got horrible AM reception. The simulcast was ended by 1980 as the FM became a hard rock station and the AM station was softened to a more adult contemporary sound. By 1984, the FM station transitioned into what was the emerging CHR format of the 80’s decade. The AM station did a hard core oldies format 1986-1991 as “K63 The Oldies Channel”. By 1992, the AM station was WDGY and they were spinning country music. After a brief stint with nostalgia, KDWB pulled the plug on AM in spring 1994. Today at AM 63 is Radio Rey, something for the emerging Hispanic communities. As for KDWB, they’re still around on FM today playing the hits, but sounding nothing like its AM heyday.
