Our military personnel are stretched mighty thin these days. With war in Iraq, duty in Afghanistan and now a humanitarian relief effort in South Asia, these men and women need a break.
For many years, the Armed Forces Radio & Television Service (AFRTS) broadcast from transmitters all over Europe and parts of Asia to troops stationed in the region during the Cold War going back to just after WWII. Several years ago, most of the transmitters and local programming went away in favor of AFRTS’ satellite service based in CONUS.
From 1987, here’s (Army) Specialist Leonard Buchannan with “The Beat in the Heartland”, a program of popular music broadcast from the Hamburg, Germany AFRTS studios. I have no idea where this soldier may be today (probably retired or getting close), but he did a great job.
This aircheck is dedicated to all our men and women in uniform. Thank you for your service!

An interesting aircheck from the radio side of AFN. Kudos to whoever posted it…
