Don Walker, 101 WKNZ Collins/Hattiesburg MS | May 1982

Well now, honestly folks, there are a few of these miscellaneous tapes sitting around with a label and no credits in this ‘miscellaneous’ bin. If you donated it, fess up in the comments section. It probably got stuck in the box during one of my moves.

This is a short scope of WKNZ 101.7 Hattiesburg MS from 1982. The station long ago ceased to exist in this form, is now listed as off the air, last affiliated with the Educational Media Foundation (Christian music formatted “K-Love”)with the calls on 88.7 in Harrington Delaware. There is an internet station “Zoo 107″ WKNZ out there that I think you can check out on live 365 but I don’t have the link.

Funny how some stations disappear into the ether.

We’re actually in the process of building 25kW 88.7fm WKNZ in Harrington, DE. The mis-information of K-Love comes from they were the last owner/occupant of the call letters but where I’m not exactly sure… Look for a brand new non commercial Christian WKNZ on the air in 2009 on Delmarva!

Had to chime in since this aircheck features a station in my home state! Actually, I first heard this check over at http://www.johnweeksaudio.com along with some other good airchecks in that time frame before the 80s CHR explosion (and JAM jingles) hit the airwaves en mass.

Don’t know much about the featured jock, other than he was local, wonder how many stations in the Hub City area have that today on Saturday night?

It was a good selection of music and actaully featured some gold rock tracks to, reminescent of a time frame when CHR could get away with that.

    My .02 cents

Isn’t this the station where Harry Nelson got his start?

I was living in Hattiesburg about that time frame . I remember listen to 101/KNZ . They were really a great station for that era . Don’t remember ever listening to the DJ on the clip , however the clip sounds good . Listening to this sure brings back some fond memories of Hattiesburg and 101/KNZ !
