Classic Jingles: KLIF & KONO - PAMS Series 33 Reel
We’re going to assume 1967 for these bits of audio candy! It’s not often that we get REELS, and orginal PAMS reels at that. The ‘wow’ factor is very much off the scale!
So, here’s the scoop on these jingles. I asked our ‘official’ site historian, Jack Parnell, to listen to these and give his opinion.. so I gave him the reel last week - well, here’s what he said:
BTW, the tape I brought is indeed KONO & KLIF stuff, and most likely is
the
original. Levels are
kinda low though, so I can’t say for sure. Quality on it is not
good…very
“dark” sounding quality-wise.
Perhaps it’s the tape machine. On this Wollensak, while the right side is out (the RealPlayer recording is in mono from the left channel), I managed to get decent audio quality.
If those were from about 65 or 66, Drake didn’t do them; he didn’t take
over
RKO stations until about
mid-68.
Okay then! We’ll assume sometime between 1967-1968, only because of where they came from. These ARE in the original PAMS Box which leads us to believe that they are authentic.

This is a demo reel for PAMS Series 31 “Music Explosion” which
featured stations KLIF and KONO. The demo was issued in 1966.

Definitely from 1966. In the WING Production Studio, the original PAMS Series 31 “Music Explosion” reel sits high on a shelf, along with other PAMS/TM WING jingle/aircheck reels from the good ol’ Top 40 days here in Dayton…amazing that these things didn’t just “walk off” YEARS ago!
