Perhaps the most creative radio that can be heard today is in the college world. A good example of this is Jarrell Mason, host of the weekly “Time Machine” feature on college station WUAG 103.1.
Jarrell says he’s graduating and this interview was the final event of his final program on WUAG – so congratulations are in order.
If you’re not in tune with the state of today’s radio, or just want to understand what happened to commercial radio since the 1970s, this interview will clear some things up. Your webmaster has a few funny stories to tell along the way.

Airchexx site fan and new contributor Jarrell Mason is featured here doing a wonderful interview with former WXLO 99X personality Walt “Baby Love”. Mason wanted to describe this interview and others like it in his own words:
I’m at 22 yr. old senior at The University Of North Carolina at Greensboro majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in radio along with being radio host of “The Time Machine” on my campus radio station WUAG 103.1 FM. I’ve been doing the show for 4 years since Fall 2004 when I was an 18 yr. old freshmen and have had the chance to interview people like Nina Blackwood, Donnie Simpson, Cameron Paul (KMEL), Maurice Starr(Guy that created New Edition/New Kids On The Block) just to name a few. To check out more of my stuff just type in my name on you tube and you will see those interviews along with others.
The interview with Mr. Love is basically about his beginnings in radio, how he feels about the state of commercial radio, what made him want to go into preaching the word of God, and he also shares an interesting story about Donnie Simpson and WKYS along with how The Countdown came about. It’s good for those that know who he is and can serve as a history lesson to those that don’t.
Well, I guess that pretty much says it all, and dovetails nicely with our post of Walt Baby Love on 99X from 1974 that you just should NOT miss!
