The Dave Scott Show, 1080 WEEP & 107.9 WEEP-FM Pittsburgh | May, 1969

107.9 WDSY-FM Y108

What’s appropriate when you can’t find a logo? Not for 1969, but the current incarnation of the old WEEP-FM carries on the Country format with the WDSY call letters, branded Y108. As for this aircheck, here is Dave Scott, who throws enough names out there to make one think he’s someone else… unless you were a regular listener in 1969 of course.

To my ears, WEEP is an odd-sounding station. This station sounds very much like a Top-40 Rock & Roll station, but just substitute Rock for Country. The reverb machine is cranked up loud, Dave Scott talks like a Top 40 jock in the 1960s, there are commercials in between every record and even ABC network news on the hour!

The last few minutes of this was recorded from the FM side only.

The branding on most of this is clearly AM 1080 WEEP. So it’s obvious that WEEP was playing purely country, at least for part of the broadcast day. I’m not completely familiar with this station’s early history, so someone familiar with the market should comment and help us fill in the blanks.
