The Mojoman, 1470 WOHO Toledo | 1969

1470 WOHO Toledo, AM, Mojoman

The Mojoman Sid Grubbs WOHO ToledoSid Grubbs welcomes you to his world (//themojoman.com/) with words only the Mojoman (c) could have uttered

YES, GEAR JAMMERS, DOUBLE CLUTCHERS, CURB JUMPERS, MAMMY JAMMERS, COOKIE CRUNCHERS, AND BABYCAKES THE MOJOMAN® IS ALIVE AND WELL.

It’s 1969 and thank heavens Bill Drake wasn’t at WOHO to hear THIS delivery! This is all personality, uniquely the Mojoman, a name that Sid Grubbs says he got after a talk with his friend, Bo Diddley. The persona was so unique, he had it trademarked.

Here’s an original aircheck of WOHO, an AM station with a long history of Top 40 radio in Toledo. 1470 today is relegated to the relative dustbin of historic radio stations, now (yet) another transmitter for ESPN radio (as WLQR)… so those young sports fanatics can sweat more testosterone. But back in ’69… well, just listen!

Did I hear the Mojoman call Neil Diamond “Neil Downer” on that intro or were my ears playing tricks on me?

All the rhyming phrases remind me of Mad Daddy on WINS, NYC in the early 1960’s.

I remember calling the station WOHO1470 and asking “what happened to the ‘mojoman'”? They told me “he left town”.

    • Yep after smacking the new PD you get fired and nothing else left to do but leave town,,,because of contract agreements.
