Perhaps the very first thing that should be mentioned with regard to this aircheck is the fact that because of the way we performed ‘live’ shows, every element was tracked – albeit five minutes before it aired so that the effect was a 100% live product – but because of this fact, I was able to take this particular Wednesday afternoon show and piece together all the elements which I had as separate tracks in my home studio, then mix it down to the exact end product as it sounded when transmitted. The only difference being that this aircheck is in fully produced stereo instead of flat mono. All that being said, now imagine if we’d had an FM station to put this format on?…
The brains and creative genius behind this format was Mike Raub. The format was originally developed for the online station HitOldies.com, then the local sports, weather and traffic elements along with our various live interviews and bits thrown in.
The station was run via an LMA between VGR Radio and the station’s owner, Sacred Heart University. For various reasons which will not be addressed on this website, Sacred Heart University terminated the LMA agreement on Monday, July 10, 2017 and returned the format to a simulcast of WSHU-FM’s NPR programming.
Posted simply as an historical beacon to a unique attempt at local programming on a small AM station, we submit this end-of-life recording of locally-programmed 1400 WSTC Stamford.
