Ann Duran, WQSX Lawrence/Boston “Star 93-7” | March 13, 2003

93.7 Lawrence Boston WQSX Star

Once in a while, recording on a whim works out pretty well. Your webmaster recorded this just to get a sample of a few stations on a visit to Massachusetts this snowy, mid-March day. At the time, I didn’t think this would be of much interest but thinking back now, 10 years later, this is pretty good.

“The Rhythm of Boston” was a good mix of then-current dance tracks, with some classic Disco and club/techno beats in rotation. It helps to have some well-known hits from Madonna thrown in. And… Ann Duran is LIVE.

93.7 was once again in-between format changes, although at the time it seemed like a permanent format. This had started out as Curt Gowdy’s radio station as WCGY in the 1970s and early 1980s, then successive format changes included Classic Hits (WEGQ – “The Eagle”), Rhythmic/Dance (WQSX – “Star 93.7”) and the latest, several years ago, to All Sports WEEI-FM.

Thanks for posting this, Steve. Back in high school (2003), I found this aircheck on a school computer and it’s been an earworm in the back of my mind for 20 years. Weird to listen to it again. Glad it’s still on your site!

    • Good Lord! Someone had airchexx loaded up at school? Now, that’s quite an honor, especially considering that in 2003, airchexx was barely a blip on the radar of aircheck fans… Reelradio was almost the only game in town around that time. I’d had this up for little more than a year.

About the aircheck. I don’t recall hearing Ann Duran anywhere else after this. She probably got a job in another market somewhere, or maybe she just got out of radio altogether. Lord knows, by 2003, radio salaries were in the toilet and still falling.

      Thanks for the comments!
