Aircheck Entry #1,382

If You See Ralph Forrester, you tell Ralph to have a Happy Day!

Comments: Looking back to a cold Winter day in early 1979, “The Duck”, as Bob Duckman calls himself is the show’s anchor on a WASH-FM 97.1 Weekend. A few things to note with this aircheck: First off, while this is solidly Adult Contemporary (AC), this is toward the end of the Disco era and some of the music that fits Wash-FM’s format are big Disco hits. Note the Bee Gees’ “Tragedy” and Donna Summer’s “Last Dance”. Both of those songs and many more huge Disco hits of the 70s would remain the uptempo staples of the Adult Contemporary format, especially on Wash-FM, well into the early 1980s, whereas after 1980, when Disco essentially burned itself out, the new FM CHR stations (and a few big AM Top 40’s that stayed with the format) would go in a harder-Rock direction (See “Rock-40” at WLS).

There is a contest going on called, “Famous Valentines”. Wash-FM is taking a selected caller and the winner gets a prize (listen to find out what it is!). This leads us to believe that this recording was made sometime in the Month of February, much like our previous post of WASH-FM from the same timeframe.

With some light audio processing, this recording came back to life nicely. It appears to have been recorded in stereo, but the station sounds like its a mono recording and that is probably because the tuner used was perhaps either slightly off center frequency or the aircheck was recorded some distance from Washington DC. Still, there is very little white noise heard.

Scoped, approximately 8 minutes.

Note the new presentation format. We hope that this will better clarify all airchecks presented on Airchexx.com.
