Bob Jones, KCEE/KWFM Tucson | May 23, 1992

Transistor Radio 1965 Bob Jones
This is the very radio I used...still have it...still works perfectly!!
Antenna Farm in Tucson

Some stations are memorable. Others fade away into obscurity. Doing a bit of research shows that KCEE was an AM station that appears to have been on 790. KWFM-FM was on 92.9. I can’t find a logo for either station from that time period.

DETAILS

Contributor Bob Jones sent this one in of himself. It’s a “Presto Requesto” Weekend… basically an invitation for listeners to call in and request their favorite oldie. You know how that goes. The request lines are set to busy until the jock asks for a request then opens them for about 10 seconds.

What you don’t hear because the music has been cut out of this aircheck are the dead segues. About every other song is a segue without either the jock talking or an element in between. It’s kinda refreshing to hear.

TECHNICAL

The tape from this was digitized by the Contributor. It required a bit of track equalization, as the right side was about 6db lower than the left. The overall audio quality is excellent. There was no need for audio processing. It’s actually too bad that copyright laws prohibit us from presenting this with the music intact. It’s obvious that Cool 92.9 was well processed at the transmitter and sounded quite good over the air. The tape held up quite well. That always helps!

ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTOR

Bob Jones has been an Airchexx Contributor for several years. He is a retired broadcaster who got to work alongside some legendary radio people. He was a lifelong friend of Hall of Fame Inductee John Mack Flanagan. Jones has recorded a lot of airchecks over the years, and as he converts his tape collection to digital, he’s donating them one at a time to our archives.

Airchexx.com thanks Bob Jones both for his contributions and for his ongoing friendship!
