Charlie Tuna was a Los Angeles radio legend. Over the span of his career, he also hosted shows for KBIG-FM, KTNQ, KHTZ, KRLA, KODJ, KMPC, KIKF, KLAC, & KRTH, & at various times working in pop, rock, oldies, country, talk and sports formats. Tuna worked in Southern California radio for nearly 50 years. For a short time in the mid 1970s, Charlie worked at 102.7 KKDJ. It was a Top 40 station that gave KHJ a run for it’s money, from 1973 to 75. In Fall 1975, management of KKDJ decided to change direction to Adult Contemporary, and change the calls to KIIS. Here is a sample of KKDJ from 1974 with Charlie Tuna doing his thing.

Combined Communications – owner of KKDJ, purchased KIIS 1150 AM in 1975. In the fall, the merger took place, and the KIIS calls were adopted. Thus the KIIS AM/FM simulcasts on 102.7 and 1150.
KKDJ was a special station. Great DJ’s and imaging,
