“99X – Rockin’ the Apple in Stereo!”

Courtesy of Big Apple Airchecks, here’s a new Composite of New York’s legendary 99X! This spans the Fall 1977 – Spring 1978 time frame and includes some great personalities like Glen Morgan, The “Sainte” Show, Dick Sloan and others.

This is another tightly scoped aircheck that came to us that way. Listen closely or you’ll miss the small details. No jingles during this time frame. The emphasis of 99X here was on album cuts, along with the big Top 40 hits of the day!

As always, listener feedback is welcome using the “Comment” feature below.

  1. Steve Love the “toilet song” funeral for a friend by Elton those in the business knows that means a little more time in the gents to clean up. Being in San Fran got to hear the station of the year in 77 KFRC but WXLO’s music program and talk ups are definitely in the top five for that era. Thanks so much for 99X aircheck.

This reminds me of our first summer in Queens Village, after surviving the Brooklyn inner city neighborhood of Fort Greene (now hipster Brooklyn). These snippets of the songs of that summer really bring back memories of faded jeans and iron-on t-shirt decals – or better yet – the free iron-on transfers that the Daily News would print in their Sunday newspaper package. Remember when newspapers came in great big piles of paper that cost 75 cents?
