Alan Polasky owns a tribute website to the station, www.wfuntribute.com – “Fun 79”. There, he describes what led to WFUN’s final days as a Top 40 radio station:
“Top 40 on AM became more competitive, too, when WINZ briefly joined the fray. Ultimately many listeners moved to FM for music, and in 1976, WFUN was sold and became News/Talk WNWS and later middle-of-the-road station WMRZ, followed by WAXY which was brokered talk. Now “790 The Ticket” sports is the format of our former beloved station. “

hi, wfun what a name what a sound surprised that they didnt beat wqam all the time im convinced otherwise thanks jb ps im on the radio sat noon to 2pm check it out cfrc.ca
WFUN was a great station in it’s own right certainly every bit as good as WQAM and sometimes better, but..although they were 5KW 24 hours the signal was directional. At night there were signal problems north of Miami. WQAM was non directional with 1kw at night The WQAM tower had the best ground system, Biscayne Bay.
Bob Gordon just passed away recently. He was one of South Florida’s best. RIP, Gordo!
