First off, big thanks to Big Apple Airchecks for another blockbuster aircheck donation! Matt’s been with us since the beginning and a simple thanks, oftentimes, is simply not enough. So visit his site!

Here’s part two of Dan Ingram’s ‘tryout’. While the exact date of this aircheck isn’t readily apparent, Robert W. Morgan had passed away just a month earlier. According to one source, Charlie Van Dyke was already chosen to take the morning show, and the week prior had different morning show hosts each day as a stunt.

Notice the music here (what you can hear of it) is solidly 60s & 70s fare. The Classic Hits 70s/80s format was still a few years away.

  1. At 13;39, the reporter mentioned Ormond Beach, Florida. My pediatrician retired there. Also, at 0:55, Dan called Tom Jones “Mr. Tight Buns”. Rush Limbaugh used to call him “Tommy Tight Pants”.

  2. KRTH ran a series of week-long “tryouts” for the morning show after Robert W. Morgan’s passing, although Charlie Van Dyke was already booked for the permanent gig. Big Dan did a week, as did, if I recall, Charlie Tuna and Dave Diamond. The production value of these K-Earth airchecks is phenomenal. Tight, lots of the classic a capella jingles, and contest promos that were second to none.
