WMMR has been playing Rock for Philadelphia since it’s Progressive Rock days in 1968, and it continues to be Philly’s top Rock Station.

For many years, there was a Rock Battle in Philly between WMMR & 94 WYSP.

This 1969 aircheck features Dave Herman, and The Marconi Experiment. Dave was the first rock jock on WMMR in 1968. After a couple of years at WMMR, Dave went work at WABC-FM in New York, which after became WPLJ. Dave spent time moving back & forth between WPLJ & WNEW-FM. For a time in the 1990s, he was on air at 92.3 K-Rock WXRK. He went back to WNEW-FM, where he worked until the Rock format ended in 1998.

Herman was arrested in 2013 in St Croix, over a criminal complaint stated he expected to meet a woman and her six-year-old daughter, who he allegedly believed was being brought for an intimate encounter with him. He was charged with transportation with intent to engage in criminal activity. His attorney claimed Herman was interested in the mother, not the girl. Herman died on May 28, 2014, while awaiting his trial. He was 78. -Ellis
