Debut of Z106 with Randall & Cooke, WZGO Philadelphia – July 1984

This is the start of CHR formatted Z106 WZGO Philadelphia from 1984, which replaced CHR Formatted WWSH The Top FM 106, which one year earlier Replaced AC formatted WWSH Wish 106, which one year earlier replaced Beautiful Music formatted WWSH Stereo 106. The 106.1 format had trouble attracting an audience once it dropped the elevator music, so it had a new format or branding every year. After Z 106, the station hired Mike Joseph of Hit Hits fame to create WTRK Electric 106, and a year later 106.1 finally hit pay dirt when Malrite bought the station & created Eagle 106, which was finally a ratings winner. On this aircheck you hear Randall & Cooke on morning drive. Kelly Randall & Dan Cooke came to Philly from KKUA Honolulu in 1983. It’s their first day with the new station branding, and you’ll hear a few bumps, including getting the calls wrong.
