Famous 56 WFIL was a Philadelphia radio powerhouse in the 1960 & 70s. “The Pop Explosion” on WFIL began in September 1966, as they took on Top 40 leader WIBG. WFIL was slick, fast paced, as well as younger & hipper than WIBG. It didn’t take long for WFIL to claim the throne as Pop Music leader. WFIL gave us legendary “Boss Jocks” including Jay Cook, Jim Nettleton, George Michael, , Frank Kingston Smith, Chuck Browning, Dick Heatherton, and Banana Joe Montione, as well as  Dr. Don Rose, Jim O’Brien, & Dave Parks who are featured in the aircheck.

Now, a message from our founder…
Do you think you could spare a moment? Airchexx.com survives, literally, on the donations from people just like you. The ads you see take about 3 months to build up enough revenue just to get a small check. If you enjoy these archives, which so many out there do indeed rely upon, could you spare a little bit of cash? All of it goes to the hosting fees and miscellaneous costs of running this website. Thank you in advance.
