107.9 FM Boston Medford Kiss 108 WXKS-FM WWEL-FM Dale Dorman Matt Siegal JJ Wright JoJo Kincaid Matty in the Morning

Here’s Kiss-108’s night driver Ed McMahon (not THAT Ed McMahon!) in a high-energy, yet personable approach that I would simply call comfortable.

DESCRIPTION

By 1984, Boston had THREE CHR stations all competing for the 12+ demographic. In competition at this point was 103.3 WHTT (the former WEEI-FM), 94.5 WCOZ (soon to be WZOU) and Kiss-108, which had been an Urban station. PD Sunny Joe White converted Kiss-108 into a very high energy, personality oriented Contemporary Hit Radio station. Dale Dorman held down mornings, JJ Wright was onboard. I forgot who did afternoons and Ed McMahon had Evenings.

This aircheck is part of a larger master aircheck composite featuring McMahon, Lisa Trexler (overnights?) and Dale Dorman. We’ll get to posting each one of those separately.

TECHNICAL

The original recording is good quality. I wouldn’t say excellent, since there are some spots in the composite master that get a bit muffled. For the sake of this presentation, I did not do any audio processing. Leaving it alone leaves one with the original sound of Kiss-108. From how I remember it, Kiss-108 didn’t overly process the studio mics and that shows on this recording. A word about how this is scoped. It came in telescoped by our contributor, however, as ASCAP, BMI & SoundExchange are now tightening up their definitions of “fair use”, I’ve had to take out ANY part of a song that’s left after the jock stops talking. It’s absolutely necessary to keep us out of hot water.
