WXLO 99X New York – Harry “Bud” Nelson – 1977

For a while in the 1970s, while 77 WABC was getting all the attention, there was another Top 40 station in New York, doing it’s thing and sounding great… all while using only one shotgun jingle. I’m talking about WXLO, better known as 99X! Some legendary jocks spent time on air at 99X, including Jay Thomas, Walt Baby Love, Big Ron O’Brien, Sue O’Neil, Steve Weed and many others.

One of the legendary jocks who worked behind the 99X microphones, was Harry “Bud” Nelson. Nelson’s long radio career included on-air and later PD at Top 40 68 WRKO/BOSTON, and he later went on to become PD at sister Oldies outlet WROR. Other radio stops included programming and on-air posts at KSLQ/ST. LOUIS, B95/KANSAS CITY, KLTK/DENVER, 610 KFRC/SAN FRANCISCO, WZOU/Boston, and WAPP/NEW YORK. He most recently ran the MAINE-based HARRY NELSON ARTIST MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING. This aircheck features Nelson in mid-career at WXLO.
