Harry Nelson, 98.7 WXLO New York | December, 1977

Active on Facebook (so you can contact him), Nelson has been in radio for a very long time. Much of it was with RKO-General’s chain of radio stations. His resume includes radio stations like WRKO Boston, KFRC San Francisco, WJBQ Portland Maine, WROR Boston, and even a stay at WXLO “99X” New York!

As heard on this aircheck, Harry Nelson is amazingly consistent in his style from one station to the next. Warm, funny and very likeable, Nelson really comes across as someone you’d like to be friends with… at least listening to him.

And now, from the archives of the former website, here’s Harry Nelson, on 99X!

Love this aircheck, and interestingly enough, there’s a promo a few minutes in for a Coke Adds Life promotion voiced by “Terry” Nelson. I worked for Terry at two stations and he told me that they used to joke around that they were the Nelson Brothers when Harry flew down from Boston to do weekends. He said they had a blast.

Rob, hi and welcome to Airchexx! Well, you make another dozen or so people in the last week who can’t play airchecks. There is some issue with the player, either on your end or the server. What I need from you and others who can’t play these is: Operating system and version (not everybody has Windows), What browser and are you listening on a PC, Notebook or mobile device. That will help me and my admin try to figure out what’s going on.

      Big fan of yours, Rob!

“Shotgun” Rob Sisco…Bobby Rich’s brother in law and APD of 99X. You wrote to me awhile back asking for that aircheck which I sent. I remember recording that aircheck way back when. You worked with Rick Bisceglia (MD) as well. A fun bunch of guys, I remember visiting Jerry Carroll and Sue O’Neal and meeting everyone.

What can I say about Harry Nelson? A super nice guy who I first met in 1977, and reconnected with in 2008. A great jock and programmer as well.
